The training programs consist of common and interdisciplinary content, but differ in detail with regard to the specific content and the associated tasks.

How does training at ISR work?
During the three-year training program, you will get to know ISR, your team, and our customers in depth. You will accompany our projects from requirements analysis to the introduction of new IT systems and software at the customer's site.
A structured training plan ensures that all important topics are covered and that you receive a thorough education. In addition to your trainer, the entire team is there to support you.
This is also one of the reasons why we, as a training company, have been honored several times by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for our outstanding contributions to vocational training.
What should you keep in mind when applying?
The training program begins on August 1 each year. However, the application period begins as early as the fall or winter of the previous year, so we recommend applying early. If positions are still available, you can also apply shortly before the training program begins.
Of course, we don't expect our trainees to have in-depth IT knowledge at the beginning. However, we would be delighted if you have already dealt with technical content or can present a small private project that demonstrates your interest in information technology. It is also advantageous if you have already completed an internship (as a student) in the IT field.
When reviewing your application, we also look at your grades and transcripts. We’re particularly interested in your performance in computer science and, to a lesser extent, in math and the sciences. However, average school or high school graduation exam grades are not a deal-breaker for us—perhaps you can impress us with a particularly strong cover letter, for example. It should clearly demonstrate your motivation for the apprenticeship and your interest in ISR as an employer. You’re also welcome to mention any personal IT projects you’ve worked on.
If you have already started your studies but lack practical experience, your application is also in good hands with us. We look forward to offering you new perspectives with an apprenticeship.
If your application impresses us, we'll conduct an initial introductory interview via Microsoft Teams. During the interview, we'll introduce the apprenticeship program you've applied for and explain how the training works. We're also interested in learning more about you and your career goals.
The next step, if applicable, is a one-day trial internship, during which you’ll get to know your responsibilities and the team, and we’ll have the chance to get an even better sense of each other. If it’s a good fit for both sides, nothing stands in the way of you starting an apprenticeship at ISR!
What are the arguments in favor of training at ISR?
No matter which business unit at ISR you complete your apprenticeship in—you’re guaranteed a steep learning curve, an open and collaborative work environment, and support from your coworkers.
Through regular interaction and mutual support among the trainees, you’ll also have the opportunity to think outside the box and gain insight into other apprenticeship programs.
In addition, our numerous employee events (e.g., ISR training, the ISR annual meeting, etc.) provide plenty of opportunities for you to connect with colleagues from other locations.
In addition to a fair apprenticeship stipend, which is regularly reviewed and adjusted, we offer our apprentices 30 days of vacation and excellent chances of being hired after completing their training. We train apprentices to meet our own needs and are very interested in hiring them for permanent positions once they complete their training.
The next step: a permanent position at ISR
We asked three former apprentices what has happened in their lives over the past few years and what motivates them to stay with us.
Malte was the first apprentice at ISR to begin his training as an IT specialist in application development in 1998. During his apprenticeship, he worked in consulting, training, and support for Informix database systems and Cognos BI. Later, he was responsible for support for these systems, as well as for first-level support for the entire company. Starting in 2013, he served as IT Manager and was also responsible for data protection and occupational safety, as well as for overseeing office management at all locations. Since 2023, he has been responsible for data protection and information security in the Buildsimple division.
He went from intern to apprentice, from consultant to managing consultant, and from department head to team leader in the Buildsimple division—taking on new, exciting tasks and working with great clients and colleagues.
Why is Malte still with us after all this time? “You don’t have to change companies to find a new direction.” ISR not only offers vertical career growth opportunities but also allows for the horizontal development of personal skills.
Jannik began his apprenticeship as an IT specialist in application development at ISR in 2022. After completing his apprenticeship in 2025, he remained in Application Management for the Data Warehouse, where he and his team ensure the smooth flow of data, particularly in processes where data from various sources is prepared and made available for analysis (ETL).
In the coming years, he hopes to further develop his technical skills and specialize in modern data integration and automated data processing. In addition to these professional developments, Jannik has also earned his training instructor certification and now aims to share responsibility for training our future apprentices.
He remains at ISR because he appreciates the strong sense of team spirit and the opportunities he has to advance his professional development. The combination of these factors makes ISR a good long-term fit for Jannik as an employer.

During his apprenticeship, Jonathan focused on Linux and Windows server operations, user support, and automation. After completing his apprenticeship, he specialized in AWS (Amazon Web Services). Since then, he has taken on primary responsibility for the AWS infrastructure at ISR. In addition to his AWS responsibilities, he is also in charge of the operations and architecture of the ISR-wide DevOps environment.
The combination of outstanding colleagues, work-life balance, and the opportunity to pursue a career with a strong consulting focus motivated Jonathan to stay at ISR and continue his career.
