Data & Analytics
Your path to becoming a data-driven company
Holistic data & analytics
Have you also tried to adopt the agility and speed of start-ups in recent years? What distinguishes successful start-ups besides innovative products, decisive bosses, flat hierarchies, and lean processes? Successful start-ups are designed from the management level! Those who know key figures, target values, and influencing factors and integrate them into a management model can derive processes, design systems, and assign responsibilities. But it all starts with data and its creation in the processes.
Data, information, knowledge, and decisions
For us, the term "data & analytics" is a very broad concept. We understand it as the sum of four essential sub-disciplines: data management, data analytics, data science, and, as a basis, data strategy. This interplay is visualized in the graphic below.
However, the whole only works if the individual parts are coordinated. That's why we like to work with you on all disciplines. But of course, we can also work on individual disciplines.
We work with you to develop your personal data strategy, which takes into account influencing factors such as your market, your corporate culture, your business strategy, and your IT strategy in order to define the solution that best suits your specific situation. We are constantly being asked about "the" data strategy. As is so often the case, there is no one-size-fits-all solution, and mistakes made at this early stage are costly and time-consuming to rectify later on. It is therefore worth taking your time and being prepared to invest in this step. Good data analytics solutions are rarely cheap.
Data management is the supreme discipline in data and analytics! Only what can be managed can generate predictable benefits. Even in the early days of data warehousing, the rule of thumb was that 80% of development effort went into data collection, preparation, and storage. Little has changed in this regard, even though the tools have become more powerful and these tasks may now be performed elsewhere in the company. In addition to pure development, data management also includes process definitions, roles, responsibilities, governance guidelines, and a great deal of knowledge management. These tasks have repeatedly offset the savings achieved through better tools. However, there is the additional advantage of a standardizable and secure solution without necessarily having to sacrifice flexibility and speed.
If data management is the compulsory part of data and analytics projects, then data analytics is the optional part. Preparing data for evaluation, visualizing it, and distributing it ideally implements the control model defined at the outset for your company and also offers the opportunity to try something new and gain new insights. In addition to traditional planning and reporting structures, more and more companies are enabling their business users to work independently with data and even distribute results within the company. Whereas IT used to be a classic bottleneck in the implementation of analytical requirements, self-service environments are now the norm in addition to traditional reporting. But be careful! Anyone who thinks their Excel jungle on the local file share is a self-service solution has not understood the principle.
The boundaries between data analytics and data science are becoming increasingly blurred as advanced methods and tools are made available to ordinary users. However, anyone who has ever had the opportunity to watch or listen to a real data scientist at work will quickly recognize their limitations. In addition to technical skills and a good understanding of business, mathematics and statistics are essential for a true data scientist. What good is it if I can build and execute a model but am unable to evaluate the results in a well-founded manner? We have the experts who can work with your IT and specialist departments to uncover the true value of your data.
Data & analytics from a single source
We master each of these disciplines and their combination from the initial idea to the operational phase. Our customers see this long-term support as a key advantage and our strength. In addition to excellent specialists for the individual disciplines, you also benefit from experienced architects and consultants for organizational and governance issues to ensure the successful implementation of the solutions.
Technology changes, and so do some use cases. What always remains is the need to work together.
A technician is worthless without technical input. Even today, a specialist user can only create limited technical solutions at the enterprise level on their own.
