What do students and artificial intelligence (AI) have in common? That's right, ISR Students Day 2023!
Since 2018, we have been holding a Students Day once a year, where ISR working students meet at one of the ISR locations, get to know each other personally, and work together on a topic in workshops. I have been working as a working student in marketing at ISR since April 2023 and participated in Students Day for the first time.
This year's Students Day was recently held at the ISR office in Münster with the main theme of "Artificial Intelligence." The participants? Six bachelor's and master's students from Braunschweig, Cologne, and Münster from the ISR departments of SAP Information Management, Analytics & Insights, and Application Management. Some were there for the first time, like me; others had already participated in previous Student Days. In addition, two colleagues from the recruiting team organized and accompanied the day.
On Monday evening, we gathered for a relaxed get-together with pizza in the kitchen and got to know each other a little better while playing "2 truths, 1 lie," playing a few rounds of darts, and chatting. On Tuesday morning, the substantive part of Students Day began: a colleague and IT expert from the Business Process Automation (BPA) division prepared a keynote speech and introduced us to the topic in a humorous and easy-to-understand way. Among other things, it addressed the following questions: What is a model? What is a feedback loop? How do machine learning and computer bots work? We also saw an AI-generated version of Harry Potter, which showed us the creative and fun ideas that can already be implemented with the help of AI.
We then formed groups of two to three people and spent the rest of the day working on a topic of our choice related to artificial intelligence. The aim was to try out existing AI solutions in a hands-on setting, conduct research, explore the possibilities and limitations of AI-based solutions, and reflect critically on them. Depending on their personal interests, participants dealt with topics such as text generation, image generation, creative work, and the social impact of AI.
I decided to team up with another student to create a blog post about Students Day using artificial intelligence, specifically ChatGPT 4.0, and to try out image generation in this context.
I formulated the first prompt (i.e., the request to ChatGPT) as follows:
Imagine you are a marketing expert at an IT consulting firm. You are writing a blog post about "Students Day," where all of the company's working students come together to exchange ideas and engage in group work involving artificial intelligence.
Since I felt that the AI's first text suggestion was missing some details about the day's schedule, I submitted another request to the software:
Please add some details about Students Day: On Monday evening, the students gathered at the office for drinks and pizza in a relaxed atmosphere. The next day, the students met again in the morning and the supervisors presented the theme of the event: artificial intelligence. After a short keynote speech, the students worked in small groups on projects related to AI. Chili sin carne was served for lunch. In the afternoon, the groups presented their results, and after a round of positive feedback, the day ended at 4 p.m.
The AI-generated text:
Prompts for generating images in DALL-E, an extension within ChatGPT, must be written in English:
Generate pictures of working students taking part in workshops, discussing in groups, or giving presentations. Such photos convey a real atmosphere and show the interaction and commitment of the participants.
A selection of AI-generated images:

After the editing phase, we presented the results to each other and shared our experiences.
My personal conclusion on the use of AI
I think AI is well suited in this form for generating an initial outline or topic ideas for a blog post and writing a text with the help of prompts. However, the text remains rather general and sounds rather impersonal. The images also remained in the animated style, and specific instructions, such as the exact number of people in the image, could not be reliably implemented with the image generation.
And the other students?
The other participants used AI, for example, to generate program code for a computer game or asked the chatbot for advice on their private lives and other moral issues. Another participant reported on his master's thesis in computer science, in which he examined moral judgments by AI models in greater depth.
A few impressions from Students Day

Overall:
Students Day was a great opportunity for me to get to know the other students at ISR. I was able to delve deeply into the possibilities of artificial intelligence and ChatGPT, which is also becoming increasingly important for my work in marketing. I particularly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the freedom to choose topics for the group work, and I am already looking forward to the next Students Day.
Best regards
