process control

What is process controlling used for?
Process controlling serves the purpose of ensuring that all business processes work together to advance the company's goals. At the operational level, it is designed to ensure that processes are carried out efficiently and that the necessary resources are used correctly or are available in the first place.

The three control mechanisms in process controlling
Process controlling can be divided into three separate mechanisms. The first mechanism is responsible for the automatic regulation of processes. Processes and workflows are automatically analyzed using key performance indicators. Deviations from the norm or utilization problems can thus be quickly identified and rectified.

When automatic regulation reaches its limits, the second mechanism kicks in: interactive regulation. This requires human intervention in the process to address and compensate for problems.

The third mechanism does not interfere with the ongoing process. It deals with the structural revision of processes. The Process metrics are systematically evaluated to identify weaknesses. The aim here is to identify critical paths and activities that are important for the completion of the process. This is also referred to as business process reengineering.

The three mechanisms of process controlling help to record the actual performance of processes. This enables continuous optimization of processes, which increases both customer satisfaction and process quality.
