If you would like to learn more about ISR as a training company, the content of the vocational training program, and the application process, you've come to the right place.
In addition to our offerings for students and young professionals, we offer several apprenticeships in Braunschweig and Münster each year.
Our focus is on vocational training.
- to become an IT specialist for system integration and
- to become an IT specialist for application development.
In addition, we have also trained IT systems management assistants and offered a dual computer science degree program. You can find our current apprenticeship positions in our job listings.
What do you learn during training to become an IT specialist?
In Germany, IT specialists are trained in a three-year dual system at work and in vocational school in accordance with the Ordinance on Vocational Training in the Field of Information and Telecommunications Technology. Until 2019, a distinction was made between the specializations "application development" and "system integration"; since 2020, "data and process analysis" and "digital networking" have been added.
The areas of work for IT specialists vary depending on the above-mentioned training direction and are very diverse across all specializations: They range from analyzing and planning customer requirements to setting up, maintaining, and administering systems. At ISR, trainees also assist in the development of applications and databases as well as software engineering in some business areas. Trainees also take on the adaptation, procurement, and installation of hardware and software, as well as tasks in the areas of consulting, training, and IT security.
Basically, this is referred to as "generalist training," in which specialized topics are learned in depth, but business administration, work, and communication psychology knowledge is also imparted.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SYSTEM INTEGRATION AND APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT?
In both fields, trainees deal with databases, object-oriented software development, and systems engineering. They also acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills in business administration, project managementWhat is project management? Project management encompasses all – often standardized – tasks... More and communication are also included.
In the application development specialization, prospective software developers focus on the adaptation, maintenance, and, of course, development of software and databases. Programming languages and development tools, software engineering methods, and user training are part of the curriculum.
The IT specialist for system integration training program focuses on networks, operating systems, IT security, and computer network technologies, which are planned, installed, maintained, and administered by the trainees.
Feel free to watch our video interview with Jonathan. Here, he explains that he decided to go into system integration because he didn't want to work with code all the time.
How does training at ISR work?
During the three-year training program, you will get to know ISR, your team, and our customers in depth. You will accompany our projects from requirements analysis to the introduction of new IT systems and software at the customer's site.
A structured training plan ensures that all important topics are covered and that you receive a thorough education. In addition to your trainer, the entire team is there to support you.
This is also one of the reasons why we, as a training company, have been honored several times by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for our outstanding contributions to vocational training.
What should you keep in mind when applying?
The training program starts on August 1 each year. However, the application period begins in the fall of the previous year, so we recommend applying early. If there are still positions available, it is also possible to apply shortly before the start of the training program.
Of course, we don't expect our trainees to have in-depth IT knowledge at the beginning. However, we would be delighted if you have already dealt with technical content or can present a small private project that demonstrates your interest in information technology. It is also advantageous if you have already completed an internship (as a student) in the IT field.
When reviewing your application, we also pay attention to your school grades and transcripts. We are particularly interested in your performance in computer science and mathematics, as well as other science subjects. However, average high school grades are not a criterion for exclusion—perhaps you can impress us with a particularly good cover letter, for example. This should clearly demonstrate your motivation for the training position and your interest in ISR as an employer. You are also welcome to tell us about your private IT projects.
If you have already started your studies but lack practical experience, your application is also in good hands with us. We look forward to offering you new perspectives with an apprenticeship.
If your application impresses us, we will invite you to a personal interview at our office. During the interview, we will introduce you to ISR as an employer and explain the training program. We are also interested in learning more about you and your career goals.
The next step is a one-day trial internship, if applicable, during which you will get to know your area of responsibility and the team, and we will be able to get an even better impression of you. If both sides are satisfied, nothing stands in the way of an apprenticeship at ISR!
What are the arguments in favor of training at ISR?
No matter which business area at ISR (application management, business process automation, corporate IT) you complete your training in, you are guaranteed a steep learning curve, open communication, and support from your colleagues.
During your training, you will not only get to know your business area and your team, but you will also have the opportunity to get a taste of other teams and other projects.
In addition, our numerous employee events (e.g., ISR training, ISR annual meeting, Christmas party, summer party) offer plenty of opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues from other locations.
In addition to fair training remuneration, which is regularly reviewed and adjusted, we offer our trainees 30 days of vacation and very good chances of being hired. We train for our own needs and are very interested in hiring trainees for permanent positions after they complete their training.
