ON CURRENT DWH PRACTICE

For data warehousing, SAP previously offered Business Warehouse as an integrated development and runtime environment. However, practice showed that SAP did not reach all areas of the company with Business Warehouse, so that many companies developed other data warehouse systems in addition to Business Warehouse, which were often developed on SQL-based database systems from other manufacturers. There were also companies that decided against using Business Warehouse.

With the introduction of HANA as a platform, SAP now also offered the fundamental possibility of developing analytical systems based on HANA native technologies. The originally loosely coupled tools used to build an SQL-based data warehouse (DWH) evolved into an integrated toolset based on the general market standard for the development of SQL-based DWHs.

This was accompanied by the development of a methodology thatmakes optimum use of SAP-specific tools, taking into account development standards and based on modern software development methods .
